“Bedazzled” Mystery
A Mystery Block of the Month

First Border

This month you will make 2 simple blocks--the simple 4-patch block for the corners and some very quick flying geese units.  Your complete center will measure 16 1/2” (16” finished).

Cutting Instructions:

RED

 Cut 4 - 2 1/2" Squares

YELLOW

Cut 4 - 2 1/2" Squares

MEDIUM BLUE

Cut 8 – 2 1/2” Squares
Cut 4 – 4 7/8” Squares

NAVY BLUE

 Cut 1 - 9 1/4" Square

Assembly:

First make the 4 corner blocks (Make 2 of each color arrangement):

Next, we will make the flying geese units.  Start right sides together placing 2 Medium Blue squares on the Navy Blue 9 1/4” square as shown.  Draw a line from one corner to the opposite corner as shown.  Sew a 1/4” seam on both sides of that drawn line.  Cut apart on the drawn line.    You’ll have 2 units.  Press toward the Navy Blue.

Next, place another Medium Blue square on each unit as shown.  Draw a line as shown and stitch a 1/4” seam on both sides of that line.  Cut apart on the line as before.  Repeat for the 2nd unit.  Press & VOILA!  You have 4 perfect flying geese units that measure 4 1/2” x 8 1/2”.

Finally, assemble your border onto your quilt center as shown.  Be sure to position your corner colors exactly as shown, and be sure to turn the flying geese exactly as shown as well.
