BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

That was one big, bad ice storm we had here in January!  Well actually we had an ice storm almost every weekend!

Acutally, the first one was the humdinger!  More than 3" of ice on everything.   Tree limbs were cracking, power outages everywhere, streets were sheets of ice.  Personally, our electricity was out for a week.  That was a very longgggggg week, let me tell you!  Some people in the Muskogee area are just now getting their utilities back on.  I guess I should consider myself lucky here.

So what does one do when the lights go out?  And your sewing machine and iron don't work?  Well, my dear mother-in-law and I got out the hurricane lamps for light at night.  My son brought us a few Penlight flashlights and a huge supply of batteries for them.  Those were lifesavers actually.  Just carry one in your pocket from room to room.  I even did some reading in bed at night with one.  And of course, we have a wood stove for heat, thank goodness.  So we busied ourselves with household chores such as feeding the birds, keeping the woodstove going, cooking meals on it, playing cards one night.  But most nights we went to bed early.  Thankfully, my son ran any errands that needed to be done--like getting the mail, taking me to the grocery store--with his 4WDrive pickup.  The grandkids were glad to be out of school for over a week.  And our radios replaced the tv and satellite watching.

  I really felt sorry for the electric work crews around here.  They came from all over the U.S. and worked 'round the clock.  Just on our "country road" alone, they had to reset all the poles and restring all the lines for the entire length of the road.  Bless their hearts, I hope they were paid well.

We still haven't cleaned up our yard.  There are so many broken trees and branches laying all around the yard.  Poor Buster can hardly get in the door of his doghouse for the broken limbs down in front of it.  

I personally will be so glad to see spring arrive.  The silly groundhog didn't see his shadow the other day, so spring is suppose to be here quickly!

What Am I Working On?

More like "what am I NOT working on"?

Well, now I haven't been in my sewing room for at least 2 months or so.  GASP!  Life just won't stop getting in the way!  So I'm just repeating last month's ediiton:

 So, I'm still working on another scrappy star top for a client.  I still haven't started on the mourning quilt for my mother-in-law.  I've not been working on the hand quilting on Bob's quilt in the floor hoop.  Progressing none.   Still have the appliquéd star cluster quilt for myself, and the butterfly block collection to assemble for a client, and a penguin block quilt to assemble.  And the peacock quilt still remains in the hand quilting frame and now has been moved once again to another room for storage where it is gathering dust..
