I've Been Making T-Shirt Quilts Again!

Well, I've been very busy lately to say the least!  This one was the first top pieced since I moved into my little house in town January 1.  I'm really enjoying by new sewing studio and I think I'm beginning to settle in ok.  I still have a few things I haven't "located" yet, but I'm sure those things are in my new hall closet somewhere!  And they'll turn up eventually.

This top was fun organizing into "piece-able" sections.  Kinda had to give myself a refresher course in just how I've done that in the past.  The shirts are a collection of fraternity shirts from Georgia Tech for a client.  Here's another view:

Just a couple of weeks later, I had another client referred for another T-Shirt quilt.  That was great, cuz now I could remember how to do it, lol.  The 2nd one was for the daughter of the client, a collection of her softball T-shirts from school.  And for a change, she wanted PINK and Black!  That was even more fun!

The process is very challenging to get random "blocks" to fit into rows or columns or sections.  It is absolutely impossible to do without a design wall--or a very large amount of floor space (which can be more than fun if you have kids or pets!).  Then the fun part comes when you try to figure out exactly how much/wide sashing segments need to be.  This one came together nicely in vertical rows.  The first one was mostly horizontal rows, but with some sections added.

Both quilts are gone to their owners now.  (boohoo)

Loose Change News:

We are very busy working on another book to sequel Loose Change.  Perhaps we'll get that accomplished this month.  But in the meantime we hear the book is selling well, and we have trunk shows and workshops in our schedule.  We'll be doing a workshop this month in Pryor, Oklahoma, at the Pryor Patcher's Quilt Guild, on the 21st.  We'll be making the Nickel Bricks quilt and we look forward to doing that!

Also, we've been notified that Martingale (That Patchwork Place) will feature our Japanese Yen quilt in their 2010 calendar.  Then this week we were notified that our quilt Nickel Bricks will be touring the USA in a trunk show promoting Martingale's book, The Best of That Patchwork Place, in which they are including the pattern for that quilt.  We are very honored!!

You can ask your local quilt shop to host that trunk show this year so you can see in person some of  the 18 wonderful quilts that will be featured in that book.  The Best of That Patchwork Place is scheduled for release in April of this year--that's next month!  So have your LQS contact Martingale now to get in the schedule.
